The English Journey

Stage 1: Nursery – Putting Down Roots

Our journey towards bilingualism begins in the Nursery, always respecting each child’s individual pace and developmental needs. At this stage, learning takes place through a sensory and emotional approach, where English is naturally woven into everyday experiences.

Daily routines, nursery rhymes, songs, and sound-based activities provide children with early exposure to English, helping them gradually become familiar with its sounds while developing passive listening skills. They learn to recognise words, rhythms, and intonation patterns naturally and spontaneously.

This early exposure allows children to build a positive and natural relationship with English, laying the foundations for the active use of the language that will develop further throughout Preschool and Primary School.

Stage 2: Preschool – Taking Shape

At this stage, children enthusiastically open themselves to new languages and cultures, discovering the joy of interacting and communicating in a language that is beginning to take shape.

Through our English Play Time programme, children experience English in a stimulating environment where play, music, listening, movement, and creativity become powerful tools for learning, encouraging the spontaneous and natural use of the language.

The journey is further enriched through the Trinity Stars programme, which introduces English through theatre, music, and the performing arts. Rather than an individual examination, it is a shared experience that promotes collaboration, strengthens self-confidence, and allows every child to express themselves comfortably in English without the pressure of formal assessment.

The final medal and certificate celebrate each child’s commitment and achievement, marking the first step towards future Trinity language qualifications.

Stage 3: Primary School – Spreading Wings

In Primary School, English becomes a tool for exploring the world, communicating, and learning. Our goal is to guide every child towards an independent and confident use of the language, while respecting their individual abilities and potential.

Classroom lessons combine a communicative approach with the systematic study of language structures. Listening and speaking remain at the heart of learning, while vocabulary, language functions, and grammatical awareness are developed progressively through authentic activities, digital resources, and cultural exploration.

At the same time, the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology allows pupils to study subjects such as Science, Technology, and Geography directly in English, making learning meaningful, practical, and fully integrated.

With an enhanced timetable of up to eight hours of English per week, our pupils follow a programme of excellence that exceeds national curriculum requirements and provides a strong foundation for Secondary School education.

The journey also offers students the opportunity to obtain internationally recognised Trinity GESE certifications, assessed by examiners from Trinity College London. These qualifications provide an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the linguistic and communicative skills acquired throughout the programme.
